Calculating solar position

Live · astronomically accurate

Half the planet is asleep

Their enquiries are not. Every amber marker is a city currently in darkness, where messages are arriving and nobody local is awake to answer them.

01 — The premise

The terminator is a business map

That line moving across the globe above is the terminator: the boundary between day and night. It is computed from the real position of the sun right now, not animated on a loop. Reload this page in an hour and it will have moved fifteen degrees west.

For most people it is an astronomical curiosity. For anyone selling something, it is a map of where demand is currently unattended. Roughly half of all human commercial intent is, at any moment, happening in the dark half of that sphere, arriving at businesses that closed hours ago.

The enquiry still gets sent. Somebody still types it at 1am, hits send, and waits. The only question is whether anything answers.

02 — The arithmetic

You are closed more than you are open

A business running nine to six, five days a week, is open for 45 of the 168 hours in a week. That is 27 percent of the time. The other 123 hours are not quiet, they are simply unattended.

Add a global audience and it gets sharper. When it is midnight in Singapore, it is mid-afternoon in London and lunchtime in Lagos. Somebody is always mid-decision somewhere, and your inbox does not know the difference.

03 — The fix

Something has to be awake

Not somebody. Something. Hiring across timezones to cover the dark half is possible and expensive, and it is rarely justified by the two enquiries that arrive at 3am on a Sunday.

What works is an automated first response that does real work: acknowledges instantly, answers the routine questions, collects what you need to qualify, and wakes a human only when the conversation earns it. The lead never learns that the office was closed.

That is the entire thing Moro builds.

It is night somewhere. Someone is typing.

Tell us what currently happens to an enquiry that lands at 2am. That conversation usually takes about four messages.
